Winemaker Isabel Mitarakis
The Master

Elegance and terroir in perfect balance
A member of a family historically linked to the development of Chilean winemaking, Isabel Mitarakis Guilisasti has forged an outstanding career in the production of high-end wines. She demonstrates a unique sensitivity to terroir and a deep respect for the scientific knowledge that underpins her work.
Since childhood, Isabel grew up surrounded by vineyards, which awakened in her a natural connection with the world of wine. Determined to continue the family legacy, she studied Agronomy with a specialization in Enology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
“I am attracted to the nobility behind the craft of winemaking, where the work of the human being is closely combined with nature and its environment,” Isabel Mitarakis.
She began her career in the 2011 vintage at Viña Concha y Toro, where she worked alongside Marcelo Papa. Following that, she participated in vintages in Italy, the United States, and France. In 2013, she returned to Chile to join the Don Melchor team as an assistant winemaker under the direction of Enrique Tirado.
“Working with an iconic Cabernet like Don Melchor allowed me to understand the importance of deeply knowing a terroir to make great wines.”
In 2019, she became the head winemaker at Gravas del Maipo. Since 2018, she has been co-directing The Master project alongside Marcelo Papa, further solidifying her expertise in the Maipo Andes appellation and red varietal winemaking.
Isabel is recognized for her rigorous and scientific approach. She has conducted extensive studies on the soils and microclimates of Pirque and Puente Alto, ensuring that each wine accurately reflects its origin.
“Everything in wine has a scientific explanation. For me, honesty in wine is achieved by deeply understanding the terroir and respecting its natural expression.”
Isabel is currently a member of Viña Concha y Toro’s luxury winemaking team, where she plays a key role in both winemaking and promoting iconic wines in Chile and Asia. As a member of the third generation of the Guilisasti family, her work honors a winemaking legacy that dates to 1957.
“I don’t seek to be a wine alchemist, but to have the sensitivity not to interfere with its expression. I just want to guide the grapes and protect what the terroir gives them.”
"As a winemaker, my greatest challenge is looking after all the details involved in the wine process —not interfering with the extraordinary expression of the grapes from this vineyard or altering their qualities, but rather just guiding them throughout the entire process".
